…agree with the content or not, this movie is a must see for anyone who cares about what we put in our mouths and beyond, including the environment. The movie is realistic, and I like the hopeful messages at the end. We all can add to our knowledge base about how to go about making better food choices … including simply minimizing our exposure to calorie dense, refined junk calories retiring the notion that its all about “willpower”. The movie helps in breaking down THAT sad myth (let’s all admit it together: “WILLPOWER SUCKS!”. We cannot really expect to get healthy as individuals, nor as a nation, while being surrounded by “food” (the quotes emphasize how far what most of us will consider food from what humans ate 10000 years ago…a time where our genetics were no different from today) that is more akin to addictive drugs than anything that provides life sustenance. And while “there is no single food choice at any single point in time that is, in and of itself, a ‘mistake’ ” … try to minimize your exposure to any foods that don’t meet the following criteria and MAX your exposure to those that do: CRITERIA ONE: Less calories per serving than serving size IN GRAMS (you’ll gram weight of serving size in parenthesis in the serving size section of most Nutrition Facts label)…example: if a food has 80 calories for a 140gram serving (such as blueberries do) than buy and eat LOTS of those foods BUT if you see a food that has 120 calories for a puny serving size of 30grams (i.e., one oz) then THINK LONG AND HARD about whether you REALLY want that food in your face/environment – pick and chose such “calorie dense” foods VERY carefully as data has PROVEN these foods will help you get fat since they pack in A TON of calories before coming CLOSE to making you feel happy and full (i.e., VERY easy to calorie overdose on). Think of this, a POUND of most WHOLE fruit has between only 200-450 calories…a POUND! Does anyone REALLY think that “fruit is full of sugar” – BULLSH*T! WHOLE FRUIT IS FULL OF WATER!….300grams (2/3 of a POUND) of watermelen has only about 20grams of sugar. Bottom line: foods that have less calories than grams of food are VERY weight loss friendly ’cause your full (and happy!) on fewer calories. You can look up about anything on: www.nutritiondata.com Also, if a food has LESS calories (and preferably SUBSTANTIALLY less) than grams of protein TIMES 10 (e.g., if a food has 90 calories and 18grams of protein that is GOOD since 90 is less than 180….i.e., 18×10). Any food, to also be TRULY healthy, also have LESS sodium than grams of food (or the Pritikin rule of less mg of sodium per serving than calories per serving)…..last, but not least, remember to try and keep your saturated fat grams to LESS than 10grams (and DEFINITELY less than 20g) per day and AVOID TRANS FAT (and if push comes to shove, keep trans LESS than 2grams..and preferably less than 1g…daily) COMPLETELY…..I hope that helps!
